Neck Pain

Osteopathy is a "whole body" system of manual therapy, based on unique biomechanical principles, which uses a wide range of techniques to treat musculo-skeletal problems and other functional disorders of the body.

The primary focus of Osteopathy is the restoration of function. Osteopaths assess and diagnose the problem, then plan and administer treatment programs that aim to restore function or minimise dysfunction after disease or injury.

The most common complaints for which patients consult osteopaths include:

  • Stress related pain

  • Back and neck pain

  • Sciatica

  • Headaches

  • Pains in peripheral joints such as shoulders, knees and ankles, tendonitis and muscle strains

  • Work-related and repetitive strain injuries

  • Sports-related injuries.

  • Pain associated with arthritic conditions

Many mothers-to-be find Osteopathic treatment very beneficial both to reduce back pain during pregnancy and also to help prepare the body for birth.

Osteopathy is a professional, valuable, natural and safe treatment option offered to all Australians to improve quality of life.

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

THE BUTEYKO BREATHING TECHNIQUE

Asthma and breathing related disorders are a common chronic condition in many people today, including people living on the Sunshine Coast. The Buteyko method is a drug-free treatment for breathing related problems offered by Sunshine Coast Osteopathy.

When treating asthmatics, we do a lot of work to the neck, back, ribs and diaphragm to make sure they are all moving as a coordinated unit (as often they are not) and that there are no restrictions of the muscles or joints. In addition, we also teach the patient how to
breath correctly using the Buteyko Method.

There have been many clinical trials on the Buteyko Method - all producing similar impressive results (Med J Aust. 1998 Dec 7-21;169(11-12):575-8). The Buteyko method teaches you
breathe control using breathing exercises that retrain your breathing pattern and is an effective drug-free approach for the management of asthma and other related breathing problems.

Changes in your breathing pattern can significantly reduce the symptoms of asthma and improve your quality of life and performance.

If you are based on the Sunshine Coast or the surrounds and would like more information on the Buteyko Method, or if would like to book an appointment with Andrew please contact us on 07 5443 6818 or andrew@sunshinecoastosteopathy.com.au
